New Work: Styling Good Homes Magazine Cover – Art Direction

See how a magazine cover shoot is styled from start to finish.

Curious to see how an interior magazine shoot is put together? Well, I’ve a treat for you – a short behind-the-scenes video from my cover shoot from my shoot with Good Homes Magazine.
Make sure you look out for my dog, Teddy, who takes a staring role in the film!

Behind The Scenes of A Magazine Shoot

My brief for the shoot was to style a living room and dining room using the hottest interior trend look – purples and lilacs. I hung rugs on the walls, put tiles on the fireplace and hung gold lights up above. In the video, you’ll see how we take a photo on a camera, then upload it to a computer screen, then use a virtual magnifying glass to zoom in to make sure all the little details are perfect.
There’s a whole team of us on the set, making sure that the images are magazine worthy. You can also see how much moving we do on a shoot! I can walk up to 3 or 4 miles a day on set. Oh, and don’t forget to look out for my ‘concentrating’ face on set! It’s a peach.
Thanks to the team who worked their magic on the shoot – from the photographer, Andrew Boyd to Jess Taverner from Good Homes Magazine to our set builder, Stu, who delicately painted on the giant stencil on the wall for me using a laser. And also, I mustn’t forget to thank my lovely assistants who unpacked and then repacked 1000s of props.
Is this what you expected from a cover shoot? I’d love to know what you think.
