7 ways to Style A Home Cocktail Bar Into Your home
Whether you’re a cocktail enthusiast or enjoy a refreshing Great Northern beer, a well-designed home bar can transform any space into a haven for relaxation and entertainment. And the best bit? A home bar can be tailored to your home style and lifestyle too – it’s all about infusing your space with a touch of luxury to make the perfect setting for hosting a drinks party. Think plush textures, bold wallpaper, and striking finishes!
1. Home Bar Idea: Think Maximalist
When designing your very own home bar, you’ll want to embrace bold design! Maximalism is the key to creating a lively, decadent atmosphere where your cocktail bar will take centre stage in your home. Don’t hold back on prints, patterns, and vibrant details for the bar itself and the area around it. You could go for leopard print bar stools, gold details, glass shelf to display your glasses. With a home bar, more the merrier!
Add lots of touches to reflect your personality – like a neon bar sign, to on theme drinks related wall art or cute decorative accessories. This is your opportunity to go all out and make a striking statement. with your home bar.
2. Home Bar Idea: Work with the Space You Have
You don’t need a large home to create a stunning cocktail bar. In fact, small or awkward spaces like alcoves or under the stairs are perfect for a compact drinks cabinet or trolley. Above, the end of a kitchen counter has been turned into a drinks station turning what could have been an underused area in the home, into a fun and functional space.
Look for a vintage cocktail bar on Facebook Marketplace or at car book sales, and junk shops. Not only are they very affordable, but the proportions are smaller, making them ideal for tights spacesI I used to have a 1950s one in my first flat and it was so cool! Then you can style this with retro cocktail shakers or antique trays to create a mix of old and new.
3. Home Bar Idea: Upgrade Your GlasswaRE
Plain glassware simply won’t match the luxe look of a home cocktail bar! Choose glasses that are both functional and ornamental, allowing them to double as stylish décor when not in use. You’ll want to show off your pretty glasses by displaying them on shelves or on the top of the home bar. My favourite place to shop for pretty and affordable drinking glasses is George Home
As well as glassware, you’ll want to invest a bit of money on buying the basic cocktail ingredients and base sprits (like vodka, whiskey, rum and tequila), You’ll be surprised, lots of the most famous cocktails use the same ingredients – and are so easy to make. You’ll have so much fun experimenting.
4. Home Bar Idea: Add a DISCO BALL
For a party-ready atmosphere, you have to include a disco ball to your home bar area! There are so many on the market now, including disco ball ice buckets – and disco ball shaped glasses, or even a disco ball light that will reflect light around your room. Dunelm is my go-to shop for everything disco ball related. They even stock disco ball fairy lights.
This cool retro inspired disco ball mini bar above is from Rockett St George is the ultimate party piece for cocktail parties. And they best bit? It is on wheels so you can roll it from room to room so that party never has to stop.
5. Home Bar Idea: Go for a fitted CABINETRY
If you want to upscale your cocktail cabinet, you can get a carpenter to make you a bespoke bar. I’ve seen home bars that have been hidden inside bookcases, under the stairs, or installed inside alcoves.
If getting in a trade to make one, then you can DIY it yourself. Instagram & Pinterest is packed with ideas on how you can make a home bar yourself, hacking Ikea furniture. You can buy lots of bar decor, accessories and fittings on Amazon to finish off the look.
6. Home Bar Idea: Pull Up a Seat
No home bar is complete without comfortable, stylish seating. you’ll need a spot for guests to perch while you create the best cocktails in town!
Opt for plush, luxurious bar stools that guest can relax on. Look for curved silhouettes, cushy seats, and velvet upholstery to create the perfect balance of comfort and style.
Once your cocktail area is all set you, why not host a themed cocktail night for your friends. How fun does that sound?
7. Home Bar Idea: Dim the Lights
Lighting is essential for creating the right mood when hosting a cocktail party. Turn off your harsh over head ceiling light, and instead turn on low level table lamps, wall lights or even candles. This will add a cosy, intimate feel to your space, just like your favourite cocktail bar. Incorporate dimmable lights to adjust the atmosphere depending on the time of day or the occasion.
I love how above, the wall lights highlight the artwork above the bar area.
I’ve got an idea! Why not start a cocktail themed playlist on Spotify? I have a few! Some are very retro, like Jazzy 1950s cocktail bar playlist – and some are 80s party mix which is the perfect soundtrack for serving a Pina Colada.
