Window film is a quick and stylish window dressing for all homes.  Simply peel and stick them onto your windows (and doors) and you will see your room transformed in moments.

When I first moved into my own home. I put up window film for a speedy fix and I loved it. My windows were overlooked the street and passers-by could look in.

Rather than splashing out on curtains or blinds, I opted for window film which gave me the privacy I craved.

This was all pre-building work days so my front room was also very dark. Window film allowed natural daylight to pour into my living room brightening it up. I was sad to see it go in the end, and now wish I had gone for a film in my bathroom rather than frosted glass (a project for another day….).

The designs have come on leaps and bounds. There are 100s of patterns that will thrill you. In conjunction with The Window Film Company, I’ve picked out my faves below

Come take a look with me.

They’re a cool alternative to blinds and curtains

Dressing your window today doesn’t exclusively mean using curtains and blinds. And shutters look great but can be fiddly to install and expensive.

Window film will make your home feel lighter and brighter. You can choose a designer pattern to match your wallpaper or opt for inspiration from soft furnishings such as cushions. Or if you prefer a less dramatic look you can choose a plain frosted design.

And if you change your mind, they are easy to remove too.

They give privacy but still let in lots of natural light

If your room is overlooked like mine was, window film can stop nosey neighbours peeking into your home. The frosting effect of the film still allows lots of natural light into your room too. Choose a motif that has large cut out design at the lower end of the window so you can enjoy the view out when your sitting down on your sofa.

It’s affordable (and easy to install)

If you rent then compared to curtains or blinds, window film is relatively inexpensive to install. Starting from £30 per window.

It comes pre-cut so you don’t have to worry about wonky cutting lines. It takes about five minuets to install and even DIY newbies can do it.

Use it to vamp up doors, bathrooms and furniture

It’s tough, durable and water resistant. It’s incredibly versatile. Use it to update a dated glazed front door. Or vamp up an ugly bathroom shower screen.

Love upcycling furniture? Then window film is ideal for changing the appearance of a glazed cabinet or glass door fronts of a sideboard.

There are so many ways you can use it in your home.

  1. I agree the designs have come on in leaps and bounds lately. I’m loving the cactus design. I used plain film once on the side windows of a conservatory. Not because I needed privacy (they were high up) but to mask the view of the neighbours guttering! Great for that too x

  2. I’m seriously considering this for our living room. We currently have vertical blinds which I really hate. Makes me feel like I live in an office. However we dont have sash windows which all the examples seem to show so I’m not sure how it would look on modern double glazed windows. Also I still want to be able to see out and not block out too much light. I’d like to do half the window but wonder if that would look a bit weird considering there is no midway point. Do you think it could work?

    1. Oh yes totally go for a swop. I’ve seen it on modern uPVC – you just need to stay away from traditional designs and go for a more modern print. And yes to half way. Maybe go with a design that has cut out elements near the top rather than an all over pattern. I had one with cut out circles on at the top – perfect for peaking at the neighbours – and it creates a set line.
