Recent research has revealed that Brits will pay an average of 5% less for a home featuring colours they don’t like. With the average property price in the UK now around £302,000, a poor choice of colours could be costing homeowners upwards of £15,000 when they come to sell. That’s a lot of money that you could be putting towards your next home.

What’s more, almost a fifth of Brits believe a bad colour scheme – either on the inside or outside of a property – knocks over 10% off the value of a home, meaning the cost of poor colour choices on the seller could be even greater.

Of course, the impact of paint colours on home value is largely subjective. As a disclaimer, I want to say that I’m a big fan of expressive colour – if you want to live with a bolder hue or a controversial colour pairing, then go for it. But, if you plan to sell, there are some instances where a coat of a more palatable paint colour might be in order, or when it might be best to avoid a daring colour trend.

It’s easy to make sure your home will appeal to potential sellers in a weekend of DIY! Although you do not want to erase your personality from your home, creating a blank canvas for them to imagine their style and furniture.
