Feeling the love for velvet this Christmas

With the festive season fast approaching, I’m seriously tempted to invest in a sumptuous, jewelled- velvet armchair to snuggle into this Christmas. After all, if love were a fabric, it would be definitely be velvet. Here’s how you can work this latest interior trend into your living room with my expert tips and shopping guides.

G-Plan’s Fifty Five armchair in Matt Velvet Copper £825 John Lewis

Velvet is the latest fabric trending on the autumn/winter catwalks and is making a comeback in interiors too. Forget the old-fashioned fringed pouf your nan once owned. Velvet sofas and armchairs for 2016 focuses on contemporary, up-to-date designs that work beautifully in modern interiors. Velvet in deep, rich shades can create a warm and relaxing living space. Think midnight blue, deep purple, teal, burnt orange or even olive green.
Iconic furniture designers – G-Plan – have just launched a lush selection of invitingly soft velvet sofas and armchairs in collaboration with celebrated British design team, Hemingway Design – experts in vintage projects.
Handcrafted in Melksham, Wiltshire, G-Plan ‘Vintage’ collection is full of furniture inspired by the mid-century originals discovered in their archives. My favs? Well top of my Christmas wish list are this Fifty Five armchair and Fifty Nine Corner sofa.

Well don’t be put off if you have a family (or pets). Modern velvets are surprisingly durable able to withstand the wear and tear of everyday life. Just lightly steam clean to revive the pile to make it look like new. And these sofas and chairs come with a 10-year guarantee to peace of mind.

  1. Modern rustic for me. I’ve always wanted a velvet sofa but don’t think I could pull off a completely glamorous look – in the living room anyway. x

  2. I LOVE your velvet sofa! I will definitely be looking for something similar in my next home. Velvet sofas never go out of style!

  3. Out of all the fads and trends this year, velvet is by far my favourite! It adds such a luxurious touch to any interior, and I love the mixing of textures <3 let's hope the trend is here to stay!
