Today, I’m going to share with you one of my local finds – it’s an interior stylist’s dream shop that I know you are going to love as much as me. It’s called Wick Candle Boutique and it’s in Hove. It’s so stylish and deliciously scented.
You better warn your bank manager before you go! Come on, let me give you the tour.
We Love Independent Shops
My home town of Brighton (and Hove) is a mecca for independently onwed shops. That is one of the many reasons why I love living and shopping here.
With my job, I spent a lot of my time sourcing for props (yes, that does sound like I shopping for a living!) in small independent shops around Brighton (and London). There are amazing food places too like one of the first zero waste restaurants Silo (amaziiiing!). I’ve not even started on my fav coffee shops.
If you plan a trip to this area, then you have to stop by Wick Candle Boutique It’s called a ‘scent boutique’ – as they specialise in everything aromatic. It’s on Portland Road, which is quickly becoming the area filled with cool, unique and locally owned shops with new ones popping up each week. Totally worth a visit if you love shopping for the unusual.
In the centre of all these new shops is Wick. Their philosophy is to sell beautiful products that smell good – and therefore will make you feel good too. The have searched the world to bring together 30 niche brands of candles, incense, beauty products – as well as lovely greeting cards.
Randomly, I was in the area as I was getting some keys cut (don’t ask!) And I spotted Wick. They had been on my radar as I had fallen in love with their Instagram feed. I just had to wonder in.
Style Tips to Steal From Wick
Right, so where do I start… the interior decor of the shop is spot on. I loved the wooden floors, display shelving made from industrial metal poles, and lots of fresh plants and fairy lights dotted around. I was instantly snapping on my phone for my Instagram Stories!
The shop itself is a light, bright and artfully designed. Shelves are filled with lotions and potions and glorious scents, and there is an apothecary packed with essential oils. There are so many testers, your nose will be in heaven. If you are looking for display ideas for your bathroom or bedroom, you need to take photos when you are in here.
I’d never seen some the candle brands in the UK. Some came in the prettiest bottles or had unusual aromas like ‘Ash’ from Boy Smells, ‘Hedgerow’ from Join and ‘Orange’ by Baileys. And they have lots of soy candles of all shapes .
On My WIsh List
My personal fav was the Blackbird Incense range. This Seattle brand specialise in smokey scents that make my blood rush – and the names….Izba, Ozo and Ploom means they are all going to be added to my Christmas wish list (I hope my mum and sis are reading this!?)
Oh, and have I told you they sell Yoga Mat scents laced with essentials oils and witch hazel to help clear your mind and clean your mat. I’m going back to get one for my self-practice – and they are a steal for £7.50. Total lush treat for myself!
Don’t think that this shop is super exclusive or expensive either. They have candles and gifts for every budget with candles start from £8. And the staff as super-friendly and helpful (just ask them anything – they are the experts). And they’ll wrap it for you free of charge which is great if you are looking for a birthday pressie for someone special (or yourself, let’s face it).
Oh, and don’t panic if you can’t get down here anytime soon. Wick sell on-line if you can’t get down to Hove anytime soon.
I’ve done a few reviews before of homestore Workshop and of a fab art store called Unlimited. I’m hoping this will build up a picture of my home town for you and the best places to eat, shop and relax in.
Do you love shopping in Brighton (and Hove) as much as me? You have to share your fav shops in the comments box before.
Have a wonderful day
Maxine
