Your Perfect Everyday Dress

This post is a little throwback to last summer when I collaborated with eco-fashion brand Vindnis. They kindly loaded me lots of beautiful clothes so that I could do my first ever fashion shoot for this blog.

From the awesome eco-friendly collection, I hand-picked out the Rotorua – which in my eyes is the perfect everyday dress in a flattering shade of sharkskin grey. I loved it so much I kept it. In fact, I wore it to London for the first time last week and I was stopped twice by women asking where it is from. So I know you are going to love it too.

Your Perfect Everyday Dress

I’ve been on the hunt for the dress with laid back, relaxed styling. The type of dress that you can slip on and instantly feel cool and no-effort required to wear. It’s ideal when you want to look confident but not made up or too dressy. Maxine Brady www.maxinebrady.comI’ve been on the hunt for the dress with laid back, relaxed styling. When it comes to spring styling, I prefer to wear something that I can slip on in the morning and it will look good right through to evening. For this post, I styled it with a feather necklace that I picked up from the V&A, a vintage Panama hat and a pair of leather silver sandals from Morocco.
My photographer, Hannah Sherlock and I hit Brighton beach on this beautiful May day and she just snapped me while I bounded about on the pebbles. You can see the colourful beach huts in the background.
The boxy shape of this dress and the wide slash line suit slim shoulders. Its longer a the back with a dipped hem which is flattering for all body types. The fabric strap across the back holds the dress in place when you’re about town.
I’ve always had a thing for pockets (who hasn’t?) and the little on on the front is a small detail which stops this dress looking too plain.

I also love how the lyocell fabric feels on my skin. So soft. The fabric is made from eucalyptus wood – a far more environmentally friendly alternative to viscose.
The buttons on the arms can un-pop so you can have a wider sleeve. Although, I’ve styled it how I prefer – buttoned up.
I’ve worn this dress lots – with biker boots, silver sandals and with heavy knits in winter. It’s my go to when I’m packing for a weekend away or planning a work trip abroad.
If you’re looking to make your wardrobe work harder, then you need to invest in classic items just like this dress that you will wear again and again. One item I think everyone should have in their closet is a denim skirt to wear for all occasions.  On that you can team with a crisp white shirt for a Sunday brunch, with a slogan T for shopping with friends or dress up with a bodysuit if you are heading out for the night.
Look out clothing that works for your figure – in a length that flatters. As I’m tall, I love skirts that falls just above the knee in a fitted shape which I team with trainers. But if you are shorter, a floor length skirt will look fab with boots. The tip is to try on lots different styles until you find one which works best for you, and the rest of your wardrobe. I promise you, one single item – when bought well – will give you so many more options when getting ready in the morning.
An easy outfit – like this dress or a denim skirt – makes me feel so casual and free as I go about my day around town. I love bare legs in summer, and knowing I can go from meeting to meeting to the beach with friends in this one outfit is a lifesaver for me….
I hope this post has brought a little sunshine to your day.
The Rotorua dress is £70. I worked with eco-clothing brand Vildnis for this shoot, and my style photographer Hannah Sherlock to shoot this ethical fashion look that I know you’ll love to wear this Summer too.
