Hello! Today I’m share my new interior styling work, art direction and shoot production for a huge photography collaboartion with Lifestyle Floors.
As an interior stylist, I’m often asked to predict trends for my clients and then create imagery inspired by the latest looks. These images will appear across marketing and in the press. It’s my role to art direct the shoot, plan the shoot out in detail and do the interior styling in set.
Lifestyle Floors: New Styling Work
This summer I was asked to create a set of new images for Lifestyle Floors for 2023. These are my regular clients and they are one of my favourite companies to collaborate with. I hand pick a close team including a photographer, two assistants and a set buidler. The marketing team at Lifestyle Floors also join us on set.
I scheduled the shoot over 6 days over three locations in Henley, South London and East London booked through The Location Guys.
My Role As An Interior Stylist
One of my key roles is manage the logistics in my role as the shoot producer.
In the run up to the shoot, I cherry-pick the top trends for 2023, and then work out which flooring from Lifestyle Floors huge range will work best.
I also choose the three locations. I was looking for properties with interesting details like doors that lead onto a garden, interesting staircases, arched windows and beautiful kitchens.
Creating Mood Boards for LIFESTYLE FLOOR
Before the shoot, I plan out the all the detail including what props I needed to purchase for the sets. Shopping for the shoot is probable one of the best bits. My home is filled with boxes of stylish props and accessories in the run up to shooting.
Here is one of the mood boards so you can see the planning involved:
The final image
You can see here how I have used the props featured on my mood board in the location to bring the flooring to life. And the colours that I have picked out in the room to reflect the Coastal trend that is going to be huge for interiors in 2023. The flooring looks perfect in this room and works so well with the wooden furniture and the slim metal blue upholstered chairs.
Preparing for the shoot
The week before the shoot, I filled a hire van with purchased props and items from my own home. Then I drive to the first location house, and we unpacked my van and start set dressing rooms in the location. We temporary fit the flooring laying it on top of the existing floors at the locations.
At the end of the day, we pack up all the props back into the van, and pack up the flooring – and return the house how we found it. I like to leave the location looking picture perfect – sometimes it’s hard to know we have even been there!
It’s like moving house unpacking and packing back up again all within few days.
On the shoot day
This photo shoot fell on the hottest day of the year…and we were melting! Despite the heat, we smashed it out as a team. I even made an instagram reel to share behind-the-scenes on this shoot.
Together, we created a fabulous set of images that I’m super proud of. They will appear across the media and on the Lifestyle Floors website.
