1: Sketch Out Your Bathroom Dimensions

First step is to work out what the available space is in your bathroom. You’ll need to take accurate measurements of the length, width, and height of your bathroom and the location of plumbing outlets to get an idea of the available space you have to play with.

Start by drawing out a layout of your bathroom on paper or online. Include the fixtures and fittings like the bath, shower, sink, toilet and windows on your plan so that so you have everything to hand when shopping.

Don’t forget to check the door openings to ensure they don’t impact where you might place our bathroom furniture. And you’ll want to include hidden storage areas too – like under the basin, wall space, and ceiling heights.

2: Choose The Right MaterialS For Your Bathroom

Unlike regular furniture in your home, bathroom furniture has to be tough enough to handle steamy and moist conditions. You need to choose bathroom furniture that is waterproof and durable so it doesn’t warp, peal or bubble under these wetter conditions.

I would avoid anything made from Melamine Faced Chipboards (MFC) and Medium Density Fiberboards (MDF) as they absorb moisture and the surface layer can peal off over time. Metal furniture (unless stainless steel) can rust easily. While wicker bathroom furniture can rot if the room is not well ventilated.

Instead look for bathroom furniture made in some durable materials like treated or hard woods, ceramics, stainless steel, plywood, glass, stone or cane and bamboo. If you want to get a little inspiration for your bathroom furniture then click here to see endless options for updating your space.
