6 Autumn Dining Table Styling Ideas
The best bit about Autumn is all the warming, comfort food that we can enjoy especially on colder days that is why I have picked out my dining room. The dining room ideas I have created here for you today are easy to -recreate in your home – and they are perfect for lunch, brunch or dinner.
1. Decorate each place setting
Firstly start with your dining set. This palm print one from George Home is made up of a mixtures of patterns that you can have fun styling. Layer up bowls and plates to create a stacked effect at each setting. The best bit about this set is it is dishwasher and microwave safe so it is very practical for busy family meal times.
Style each name place setting slightly differently to make everyone feel unique. Use different coloured ribbons, or a small gift, or different coloured napkins. Here I have popped a pear at each place setting for a personal touch.
Drinks markers are a fab for keeping your washing up down (and are covid friendly too!) You could tie around different colour ribbons to wine glass stems.
2. Style your table top with Autumn touches
Next, you can’t talk about Autumn without mentioning pumpkins. There are literally 100s of ideas on how to carved , paint or decorate them. But I prefer to leave them in their natural state so that the Autumnal colours set the colour theme for your table.
Start with your runner. Here, I used seagrass place mats which I placed up the table to create a runner. place pumkins and gourdes, in different sizes and colours, up the middle of your table to create a centre piece. I then dotted in springs of fern taken from my garden among the pumpkins for a very relaxed, natural look.
After dinner the kids can take them away and decorate them – so everyone will love your Autumn dining table.
3. Repurpose everyday objects
This is one of my fave styling hacks! Look out for a nice tin can of food (this is a jar of honey), clean it out – and then use to stack your cutlery in. Look out for jars or can in the colours of your table to add a splash of orange mealtimes. Putting cutlery in a jar means guests can help themselves, setting the mood for a really relaxed mealtime.
4. Mix up a seasonal cocktail
Create a cocktail list that matches the design of your table. For example, for a summer party go for a tropical fruit fizz served with fresh pineapple or for a more adult setting why not try gin and tonics in cut glass tumblers with a twist of cucumber.
5. Make it cosy with lots of textures
Another way to style a warm and welcoming look is by using textures. Now what do I mean by that? Well, it’s about layering up the comfort factor with a cosy rug, lots of knitted throws, squishy cushions with tassels on. You want to make seating comfy as you can – you’re going to be there a long time, cushions & fur throws are great. And these accessories are a great way to showcase your theme. Luckily, George Home have a huge collection – and they are so affordable you can pick them up with your weekly shop. I keep a stack of throws close to my table so if people get cold then can grab a snuggly layer.
6. Go for the glow
Thinking about mood lighting for your dining room – from bright for eating, down to lower mood lights and lamps for when it gets dark outside. As the days get darker lighting will be a really important element to consider when styling your Autumn dining table.
Here this bamboo lantern gives off the ideal glow setting the scene for an intimate diner. You can fill it with a real candle or with a LED candle if you have little ones.
You could try hanging above the table – branches, twigs, foliage, twigs and seasonal decorations to create a focal point above the table top. And then weave in battery powered fairy lights among your hanging display for a little bit of sparkle to your Autumn dining table.
